 Heartland is a family drama series set in the fictional town of Hudson located in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains. Heartland is a place like no other; a horse ranch with a special mission of healing abused or neglected horses and finding them new homes.

The series follows the Fleming family – Grandpa Jack, (Shaun Johnston), 15-year-old Amy (Amber Marshall) and 20-something older sister Lou (Michelle Morgan) – as they deal with the ups and downs of running a ranch thats been in the family for generations but is now so deep in debt theyre one bank payment away from losing it all. After the sudden death of their mother, the girls lives change forever. Lou reluctantly returns home from her high-powered job in New York to take over the business of the ranch – this is not what she planned for her life. Amy realizes she has inherited her mothers special horse whispering gift and is determined to keep her mothers dream alive by keeping Heartland as a horse rescue centre.

Hannah and I had a great time and Paddy was really well behaved and progressed with the training they had.

We then moved from the Unicorn Trust on Thursday to the College Equestrian Centre at Keysoe as Hannah and Paddy are competing at the Indoor Carriage Driving Finals.  Hannah and Paddy were not competing until Saturday so we did a bit of dressage schooling on Thursday evening, went out for a nice drive round the village on Friday and then for the rest of the day on Friday, Hannah and I cleaned her carriage, Paddy’s harness and got Paddy all washed and ready. Hannah also went to walk her cones course ready for the next day.

Saturday morning dawned and we were up early to fed and get ourselves prepared for the competition ahead. Hannah had been given a teddy as a mascot by her Nanny and she secured him to her carriage so he was with her. Hannah dressage time was at 9.42am so we put him in harness in plenty of time for Hannah to go for a walk down the road with Paddy to keep him calm before going into the dressage warm up.  She did a lovely dressage test and Paddy even stood when he was asked. Straight after dressage Hannah went to do her cones round and as there was a bridge in the course Hannah knew that Paddy wouldn’t like she had to drive this round with lots of focus to keep Paddy listening to her. He went over the bridge but had two balls down and 4 seconds time penalties. After both these phases Hannah and Paddy were in 6th place.

Sunday was obstacle day and they had 4 obstacles to drive. This is all timed and has to be driven in a specific order. Hannah kept the pace up as much as she could and came 6th out of 15. The class was won by Charlotte Snow and Ashleigh Jones came 2nd. A lot of the juniors that were competing in this class and hoping to be selected to go to the Junior World Trophy in Hungary in August.

A big thank you goes out to the IHDT team for running a wonderful event and also to everyone at the Unicorn Trust who made us all feel really welcome.
